Barack Obama Wins the Nobel Peace Prize

I'm purring like a kitten in a butter dish over this delicious news.

Here is today's press release out of Oslo:

"The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.

The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play.

Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations.

Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future.

His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman.

The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

After eight grim years of Bush's "peace is for sissies" attitude, I wanted to print it all.

I am inspired to know that just one courageous person of good will can begin to turn things around and make a positive difference.

I have my hope back.

The BAD News:
Wingnuts throw their usual and predictable collective temper tantrum.

The GOOD News:
Banging their heads against a wall uses 150 calories an hour.

The BEST News:
They cannot take the Nobel Peace Prize away from President Obama and they're gonna have to learn to live with it.

Other than this silly group of GOPers, here's an example of how the rest of the world sees it:

"The Nobel honor is a tribute to Mr. Obama's commitment to tolerance and dialogue between states, cultures and civilizations. It confirms the return of America into the hearts of the people of the world."
-French President Nicolas Sarkozy

I'd say that Sarkozy nailed it.

Obama is making this country weaker every day and if America isn't strong the world suffers. If the Americans aren't coming to help, no one is.
Obama is not the president of the world but the President of the United States of America. Peace through strength. With this man we will have neither.

I've not seen France nor any other country turn down our billions of dollars for financial aid. Well the rich are not as rich anymore and therefore either is the US treasury. Therefore there will be less to give to those in need.

we won't make the world a better place by weakening this country. He's done nothing for peace. Troops still in Iraq, won't leave or strengthen Afghanistan. Won't close Gitmo. what has he done to earn a Nobel Peace Prize. Politics.

A President of the United States that spends his time and 54 million dollars of taxpayers money to fail at getting the Olympics makes me wonder what can he do other than campaign?

I'll take George Bush's grim unemployment figures any day over the hope and change Obama has brought us.

It is your blog, I don't know why you want politics to enter into it. Passions run deep and I respect your opinion but you glorify him so. Bush spent too much money but Obama has managed to spend us into debt forever. There will be 25 million of Americans left with no health care and those of us that pay will have the quality go down.

What I find incredible is that someone who makes all these statements concerning aid to France, acting like the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were started by our current president, who forgets it was the previous president who bombed us into bankruptcy while his cronies got rich, AND the previous president who allowed the financial institutions of this country steal us and the world blind with their credit default swaps and other swindles has the audacity to say these things under the heading "Anonymous."

I'd like to see the data regarding your claims. I'd like to see you read the newspapers regarding why we lost the Olympics. Hint: It was because since 9/11 it has been so hard to get into this country with the new regulations and people were concerned the teams would not be able to come here without extreme difficulty. It wasn't because of anything Obama did. Read. Glenn Beck really doesn't know everything. And the last thing I'd like to see, is your name standing behind your postulations. (And don't just make one up. That's cheating.)

It is just so amazing how a man who has been in office less than 10 months is being blamed for the devastation brought down on this country the previous eight years.

Bush may have gotten us into the war but Obama said he was going to bring troops home. Has he?
He blames Bush for increasing the national debt...He has spent more money in his first year than every president before him combined, Nominated for Nobel prize after being in office for 12 days...Hmmm
Obama spends more time giving speeches than he does in the White House working...kind of like his Senate career where he mostly voted "present" when he bothered to show up.
Look you may be so pro Obama that you don't see both sides of the issues. I have learned never to trust the press to form my own opinion. Read the legislation then decide if you think it is as good as the state run press wants you to believe. BTW-Bush is no longer president. Can we move on?
